Coach David Orr is a native of
Columbus, MS, and grew up swimming and coaching for Coach Carl
Butler, a legend in Mississippi swimming who led a dynasty program
for decades that won 18 straight state championships and 21 of 22

Coach David broke several Mississippi state records, qualified
for the Junior Olympics and reached Top 16 in the nation. His

Coach David held coaching positions throughout college, and
head-coached Natchez to its highest state meet finish ever.
After college, his creative skills led him to Hollywood,
where he made a name for himself as an actor and an award-winning
filmmaker—and Masters swimmer, swimming for the Rose Bowl
Masters and competing in the 2006 FINA Masters World Championships.
After Worlds, Coach David moved his family back home to
Mississippi, where he served as an assistant coach with
the Mississippi Makos Swim Team before taking on head
coaching duties with Sunkist.
Coach David believes in a “team
first” approach that creates a supportive environment for
personal improvement through proper training, improved technique
and mental focus. Coach David enjoys motivating young
athletes and empowering them to reach for the stars to achieve
their goals in swimming and in life.
